A jewel in Liberty Art's crown. Five notes. One luminous collection.

The Rainbow series brings the grandeur of historic American banknote art into a vivid new light. Sapphire blues, warm amber, emerald accents, and flashes of crimson flow through elaborate borders and expressive vignettes. Printed on authentic U.S. currency, these contemporary Art Notes unite the intimacy of a miniature painting with the intricate visual language of collectible paper money.

Inspired by the colorful spirit of the celebrated 1869 Rainbow notes, this collection reimagines familiar motifs rather than reproducing an antique issue. Each denomination has its own presence; together, the five form a richly layered tribute to America's currency-art heritage.

  • $1 — Liberty in color. Washington anchors a composition of a flowing allegorical figure, an eagle, and a shield, with cool blue tones giving way to a warm red-orange glow. It sets the collection's mood: dignified, expressive, and unmistakably Americana.
  • $2 — The Capitol. Jefferson and a detailed view of the U.S. Capitol recall a pairing found on the 1869 $2 Rainbow note. Architectural lines and ornamental color bring a sense of ceremony to this miniature panorama.
  • $5 — The Woodchopper. The pioneer with his axe and family recalls the famous Woodchopper vignette used on the 1869 $5 note. Here, that scene is reimagined beside Lincoln, connecting the warmth of home and family with the enduring symbolism of work and perseverance.
  • $10 — The Jackass-note tribute. The eagle references one of collecting's most memorable visual curiosities: on the historic note, turning the eagle upside down reveals the likeness of a donkey's head, giving the design its nickname. Beside Hamilton, the elaborate gathering recalls Introduction of the Old World to the New. Often called “Pocahontas Presented at Court,” the historic composition is an allegory involving Columbus and personifications of the continents, rather than a literal meeting between Columbus and Pocahontas.
  • $20 — A grand finale. Jackson, an oversized ornamental 20, and a richly robed figure create a sweeping finish. The sword-bearing figure echoes the allegorical Victory seen on the historic 1869 $20, while flowing color and layered detail give this modern interpretation its own theatrical character.

Designed to be collected and enjoyed together, Rainbow rewards a closer look: a familiar portrait, a rediscovered engraving, a story hidden inside an eagle. This is the pleasure of currency art—history made personal through color, imagination, and the artist's signature.
